MISSION/OUTREACH

Manna Food Pantry
Food Items collected for October include canned fruit and vegetables.
October 28th is the deadline for boxes of gently used clothing or household items for the
United Methodist Mountain Mission.   Urgent needs are listed as new socks and underwear,
men’s clothing, and appliances.
A special Offering for UMCOR to help the hurricane victims will be taken October 28th
during  worship.   100% of the total will be used to for hurricane aid.

The totals are in for the annual Festival of Sharing.      A semi was packed 80% full of kits, with our church contributing 64 School Kits and 8 Health Kits for 2018.   $150.00 has been given so far to purchase blankets.   Once again, you have reached out to help those who impacted by natural disasters.

The Festival of Sharing Ohio Facebook page lists the following kits delivered to North Carolina (with more deliveries scheduled in the wake of Hurricane Florence)

1,160 Hygiene Kits

210 School Kits

900 Blankets

2106 Clean Up Buckets

UMCOR is also responding to Florence-affected areas as well as responding to ongoing needs across the US.  (posted September 20th on the UMCOR Facebook page.)

Perhaps the 3 Clean Up Buckets our church assembled in the spring are going to help those affected by Hurricane Florence.

Supplies to fill buckets are welcomed throughout the year.   The list is available online at http://www.southcharlestonumc.org/umcor-flood-bucket-list/      Place items in the red crate on the mission shelf in the Narthex.

Thank you for your generous support of school  and hygiene kits!  They will be delivered before September 13th.

UMCOR CLEANING KITS TO BE COLLECTED AT MISSION U

There is a huge demand for cleaning buckets in the United States. These supplies enable people to begin the overwhelming job of cleaning up after a flood or hurricane.  We will continue to collect cleaning supplies for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

The next UMCOR truck will be at ‘Mission u’ in July. Kathy will take any additional buckets that can be filled as ‘Mission u’ delegates are asked to bring in cleaning kits from their churches.

UMCOR updated the cleaning product list in May due to  difficulty in finding some of the requested sizes as well as the foam sponges which prevent mildew.   Click on the UMCOR Flood Bucket link to the right for the revised list.

UMCOR RELIEF KIT SPRING COLLECTION

There is a great need for relief supply kits in the United States.   We are collecting UMCOR Hygiene, School, and Cleaning Kits to take to Annual Conference in June.   Individual items or complete kits are gathered in the red crate or white bucket at the narthex mission shelf.  Click on the UMCOR Relief Supply Kits for the list.

PRAYER SHAWLS

Donations of yarn and/or completed prayer shawls are needed.   Prayer Shawls are to give to those in need of comfort as well as celebration.   Crafters pray for the unknown recipient as the shawl is being knitted or crocheted.

MOUNTAIN MISSION

The deadline for the United Methodist Mountain Mission boxes is Sunday, May 6th. Household Items and gently used clothing/shoes are welcomed. The mission has been serving people of eastern Kentucky since 1943.
